Tips For Overcoming the 6 Month Blues

Coming to a new country and new city is a wonderful adventure, but is can be hard to be far from the ones you love.  When you add learning a new language, it is even more difficult.  Here are some suggestions of things you can do to avoid the 6 month blues.

One great step is to create a personal calendar of activities you are interested in and would like to try.  This gives you something to look forward to and provides opportunities to ask friends to join you.

Another thing to do is challenge yourself to try something new.  This can give you the chance to experience something new or unique in your host city.  Some examples are; joining a club, volunteering, or going to a party or cultural event.

The third suggestion is to find your passion.  Think about what you love to do, what is important to you, and what you value most.  After considering these things, ask your teacher, host family, or friends for ways you can put your passion to use in the community.

The last suggestion is to find interesting ways to share your adventures and experiences with your friends and family back home.  Create a shared photo account, have a personal blog to describe your experiences, send hand written letters and small packages with printed photos and items that you would like them to see and touch.

Trying even one of these ideas can make a huge difference in how you feel each day and your overall experience in your host city!
